BNWLA stands for the Bangladesh National Women's Lawyers' Association. It was established in 1979 and represents women and children whose rights have been abused. It not only defends these rights but also seeks to create and maintain links between law enforcing authorities, community bodies and other national organisations that are working to ensure the rights of women and children.
The logo
designed by Eeshita Azad
can be understood in several ways. The figures of children represent victims of domestic abuse or those trafficked for work in other countries. The female figures are those women who have been the victims of acid attacks or who have been sold into sex work overseas. The two black lines above the figures symbolise the safety of the hostel building. The orange circle can either stand for the positive influence of the sun or a tip that identifies this project as pro-gender.
The purpose of the appeal is to raise money for the building of the hostel (to include dormitories, training facilities, garden/play areas etc) and to also attract more publicity for the BNWLA cause.
We have a target of raising $600,000 which will be done in phases. We are doing this in a number of ways: organising charity events, approaching sponsors and approaching the CSR departments of large companies.
