The Fundraisers |
|
| Andrew Morris is an education consultant who has been working in Bangladesh since 1998.
He became interested in the work of BNWLA and the shelter home after reading in the article in the Daily Star Weekend Magazine about ten-year old Madhabi Majhi, the domestic worker who broke both her legs when pushed from the balcony of her employer. He himself wrote a number of follow-up stories about her and the shelter home and over several visits became interested in the stories of the other survivors, and in particular the drive to build a new more suitable shelter home outside Dhaka.
Since February 2007 Andrew and his wife Julietta Schoenmann have been actively involved in the fundraising effort, principally through the work of his jazz duo, BlueNote, whose fees from their many public performances in Dhaka go towards the appeal. Since launching the campaign, they have received support from many donors and well-wishers worldwide who have offered money, time and valuable skills. This may be a long-term campaign, but they are both committed to seeing it through.
Luuk Arens is a translator-editor who has been living in Bangladesh since July 2005.
He became involved in the BNWLA Hostel Appeal in May 2007 after meeting Andrew through a mutual friend. Inspired by Andrew's enthusiasm Luuk decided to put in time and effort to help find sponsors for a charity concert and develop other special events.
You can catch up with all the latest fundraising events and news through the campaign blog. |
